Did anyone hear? It's International Peace Day!!

Yup, today is the International Day of Peace which was started about 25 years ago by the UN. It is a day that is meant for global nonviolence and ceasefire. Unfortunately, most people have never heard of it. Here is a link to a BBC reporting featuring several 'peace bloggers' situated in conflict zones: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/talking_point/5356248.stm. The bloggers that are featured come from: Iraq, Iran, Chechnya, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Gaza, Darfur, and Balochistan.

Jeremy Gilley, a British filmmaker, began the Peace One Day film project. Here is the link to the website: http://www.peaceoneday.org/

About This Blog

The idea of this blog is that the better informed we are the better we are able to make sound decisions. Therefore, if we "dominate knowledge" we can start sharing what we learn and have a "domino effect" as we spread our knowledge to others, hopefully also motivating citizens of the world into action, an action that will help improve the communities around us. This is the objective of this blog. Thus, the name: “DomiKnow”.

To accomplish this, I will try to have links to interesting and/or useful websites, especially those that bring out the points of view that we, in the Western world, tend to hear less. I will also try to post works that may help us understand ourselves- the human species and the fascinating mind that comes with it.

Second, the idea of the blog is to highlight positive stories of people who are working toward a healthier world, since they too often do not get the attention they deserve in mainstream media.

Lastly, I would like this blog to be a place where one can share their ideas, so I invite anyone to contribute while maintaining a sense of maturity. Think of it as a playground of ideas, opinions and thoughts! After lots of "playing around" maybe conclusions can start to form. Hopefully some creative peaceful solutions to certain situations can be produced or even just a better understanding of the world and one another would be good enough. Any suggestions are welcome and any 'tasteful' humor is encouraged!!!
